Gibson Cup
The Calumet Wolverines retained possession of the Gibson Cup, after a 6-5 victory in game three of the tournament last night. Jimmy Brey scored twice in the first period to give Calumet the early advantage. Goals by Austin Sturos and Cody Sivonen tied the game in the second frame. Rory Anderson put the Wolverines back on top 3-2 heading into the third period. Six goals in the final stanza made for a wild finish. Sturos’ second score of the night tied the game briefly, but Eric Bausano gave Calumet the lead for good, and Brey’s third tally proved to be the game-winner. Portage Lake won game one of the series 5-4 in overtime Friday night. Calumet forced the third game with a 6-1 victory on Saturday.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers completed a sweep of their series against the Kansas City Royals with a 3-1 victory yesterday. Christin Stewart drove home two runs with a triple and single. Shane Greene got his seventh save – he has reached that level faster than any player in major league history.

NBA
The slumping Detroit Pistons lost 104-91 to the Charlotte Hornets yesterday afternoon. Favoring his sore knee, Blake Griffin scored just 16 points for Detroit. Ish Smith led the team with 20.
