High School

In high school volleyball last night…

On tonight’s volleyball schedule…

  • Houghton visits Jeffers.
  • Dollar Bay-Tamarack City entertains Ewen-Trout Creek. 
  • L’Anse hosts Westwood.

In cross country, local teams compete today at Houghton’s Bill Fezzy Memorial Invitational.

College Football

The Michigan Tech football team entertains the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology tonight. Kickoff is at 6:00 at Kearly Stadium.

The Northern Michigan football squad plays at Kentucky Wesleyan tonight.

College Soccer

The MTU soccer team plays at Saint Cloud State tonight.

The NMU men’s soccer team plays at Northwood this afternoon.

The Northern women’s soccer team competes at Minnesota-Duluth tonight.

MLB

Fernando Tatis Jr.’s single off Jason Foley drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, as the Padres edged the Tigers 6-5 last night. Detroit struck early, and built a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. San Diego responded with three in the bottom of the fourth, then chased starter Keider Montero from the game as they tied the contest in the fifth. Matt Vierling and Trey Sweeney homered for Detroit.

The Tigers visit the Padres again tonight. Casey Mize will start against Martín Pérez. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, Tigers coverage will begin at 8:15 on KBear 102.3.

Another Detroit starter is a step closer to returning. Reese Olson will begin a rehab assignment at Toledo tonight. He’s recovering from a shoulder strain. Wenceel Pérez has also begin a rehab stint with the Mud Hens, as he works his way back from an oblique strain.

 Javier Báez underwent hip surgery yesterday. Team officials say the arthroscopic procedure was successful, but it’s not yet clear if he’ll be ready to open the 2025 season.

The Brewers also played an extra inning, as they fell 3-2 to the Cardinals last evening. Luken Baker’s single off Hoby Milner in the top of the 10th plated the winning run. Eric Haase homered for the Crew. 

The Brewers take today off, and host the Rockies tomorrow.

NFL

The NFL season kicks off tonight, as the Ravens visit the Chiefs. Kickoff is at 8:20 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Packers open their season tomorrow night against the Eagles in São Paulo, Brazil. The Lions begin their campaign Sunday night at home against Matthew Stafford and the Rams. Both of those games will also be broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
