Calumet’s high school football season isn’t over, after all. A call to Athletic Director Patrick Dwyer yesterday produced a game Friday night at Charlevoix. That contest will replace the game against L’Anse that was canceled when the Purple Hornets ended their season early. Charlevoix was originally scheduled to play Harbor Springs. The Rayders are 7-1, with their only loss by one point in overtime to perennial power Traverse City Saint Francis on the opening day of the season. They are ranked eighth in the state by the Associated Press in Division Seven, one slot ahead of Menominee. Friday’s game will kick off at 6:00, with coverage on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

College Hockey

A loss and a tie against Alaska last weekend have dropped the Michigan Tech hockey team out of the national top-10. The Huskies fell to 17th in both major national polls this week. Tech is winless in four games, and hosts Wisconsin this weekend. The 3-1 Badgers were honorable mentions in both polls this week.

NHL

The Red Wings buried the Blue Jackets 4-0 last night. Shayne Gostisbehere scored his first Red Wings goal in the first period. Michael Rasmussen, Dylan Larkin and Andrew Copp scored in quick succession in the second period to put the game away. James Reimer made 23 saves in his Detroit debut in net.

The Wings host the Penguins tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

In the American League Championship series, the Rangers held off the Astros 5-4. Texas leads that series 2-0, and will host game three tomorrow.

In the National League Championship Series, the Phillies defeated the Diamondbacks 5-3 in the series opener. That set continues tonight in Philadelphia.

NFL

In last night’s contest, the Cowboys edged the Chargers 20-17. Brandon Aubrey’s 39-yard field goal with 2:19 remaining was the game-winner.

Lions running back David Montgomery damaged cartilage in his ribs during Sunday’s game. Yesterday, head coach Dan Campbell said Montgomery will miss some time, but no one’s sure how much. He also said it’s likely that rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs will return to the lineup Sunday, after missing time with a sore hamstring.
