Calumet Volleyball Dispatches Houghton – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school volleyball last night…

  • Calumet cruised past Houghton 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-17). Allie Bjorn had eight kills, two aces and seven digs; Maddie Torola 10 kills and two aces; Jackie Kiilunen six kills, two aces, six digs; Chloe Coppo three kills; and Bella Coppo 12 assists and nine digs.
  • Hancock defeated Gwinn – no score reported.
  • Lake Linden-Hubbell shaded L’Anse 3-2.
  • Dollar Bay-Tamarack City dropped the first two sets, then came back to defeat Ironwood 3-2 (10-25, 14-25, 25-21, 27-25, 15-12). Kiera Isaacson recorded nine aces, 20 service points, 10 kills, and eight digs for the Blue Bolts. Evelyn Moilanen added nine kills and 11 digs; Macy Jurgensen had eight kills, 27 assists, and 19 digs; Kaylynn Smith had 19 digs; Kelsey Jaehnig contributed six kills; and Laila Bell recorded five kills and 10 digs. 
  • Jeffers also lost the first two sets, then rebounded to down Ewen-Trout Creek 3-2 (15-25, 14-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-11). For the Jets, Mia Nordstrom had 26 kills, two aces and 11 digs; Taylor Heinonen 16 assists; Liz Halonen 27 assists; Alaina Kangas seven kills; and Reegan Kinnunen three aces and 17 digs.
  • Chassell lost to West Iron County 3-1 (26-24, 14-25, 20-25, 14-25). Megan Holombo had 16 digs for the Panthers. Dusty Lippold had seven kills, 10 digs, one block and one ace; Sylvia Aho had 17 assists, four digs, one block and one ace; Elli Kuntze had seven kills and eight aces; and Oriana Olson had six kills and one ace.
  • Ontonagon v Bessemer – no report.
  • Baraga swept Watersmeet 3-0 (25-12,25-12,25-18).

In volleyball tonight…

  • Dollar Bay-Tamarack City plays at Baraga

NHL

The Red Wings open their regular season tomorrow at home against the Penguins. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, we’ll join the Wings game after Tigers baseball on KBear 102.3. Faceoff for tomorrow’s game has been pushed back to 8:00.

NBA

The Pistons dropped a 105-97 preseason decision to the Suns last night. Jalen Duren led Detroit with 17 points, and Jaden Ivey added 16. 

The Pistons play their next preseason game at Phoenix Friday. Listen for selected Pistons broadcasts again this season on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Tigers host the Guardians in game three of their American League Divisional Playoff Series this afternoon. The set is tied at one win per team. Detroit has not named a starter. Alex Cobb will open for Cleveland. Coverage will begin at 2:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

Running

The Miles for Music charity run/walk will take place Saturday, to raise money for Dollar Bay High school’s music program. Check-in for the race will start at 9 am at the Memorial Union Building. The race will begin at 10. For details and online registration, click here.
