In high school volleyball last evening…
• Calumet swept Lake Linden-Hubbell 3-0 (25-12, 25-6, 25-8). Helen Beiring had seven aces and seven kills, Kristi Keranen had seven aces and 15 assists, and Elli Djerf had nine kills and six digs.
• Hancock v West Iron County – canceled.
• Chassell v Ewen-Trout Creek – canceled.
• Ontonagon fell to Wakefield-Marenisco 3-0.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker in extra innings to the Minnesota Twins last night. The game was tied 3-3 after nine innings. Detroit took the lead with a Jeimer Candelario RBI single in the top of the 10th. Minnesota came back with two runs off Bryan Garcia in the bottom of the 10th to claim the win.
The Tigers conclude that quick set at Minnesota tonight. Casey Mize will pitch against Kenta Maeda. Coverage begins at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit will finish the season without second baseman Jonathan Schoop. Schoop injured his wrist when he was hit by a pitch two weeks ago. He was placed on the 45-day injured list yesterday, and outfielder Brandon Dixon was added to the roster.
The Milwaukee Brewers edged the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 last evening. Brett Anderson gave up a two-run homer to Nicholas Castellanos in the first inning, but settled down to complete six frames. Tyrone Taylor homered for Milwaukee.
The Brewers play at Cincinnati again tonight. Adrian Houser will start against Trevor Bauer.
Last night’s win, combined with a loss by the Phillies, put the Brewers into the eighth National League playoff spot. Milwaukee has six games remaining.
NHL
The Stanley Cup championship series continues tonight, as the Lightning face the Stars. The set is tied at one win per team.
NBA
The Nuggets defeated the Lakers 114-106 last night. L-A leads the Western Conference final 2-1.
The Eastern Conference final resumes this evening. The Heat lead the Celtics 2-1.
