MLB – Tigers Eliminated Despite Win
The Detroit Tigers took an early lead, and then held on to edge the Minnesota Twins 5-4 last night. Detroit starter Alfredo Simon gave up a run in the second inning. Two runners he left on base in the seventh scored on a single off reliever Drew VerHagen. Victor Martinez drove in three runs for Detroit. Bruce Rondon gave up a run in the ninth, but then struck out Miguel Sano to earn the save.

Game details are here.

The Tigers wrap up that series at Minnesota tonight. Daniel Norris will return from the disabled list to start for Detroit. Ervin Santana will pitch for the Twins. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Despite the win, a victory by the Kansas City Royals officially eliminated the Tigers from American League Central title contention.

While Norris returns from the DL tonight, fellow starter Anibal Sanchez has experienced a setback. His rotator cuff strain flared up again Monday. His season is probably over, and he may need surgery.

Jason Heyward’s two-run homer off Tyler Thornburg in the 10th inning lifted the Saint Louis Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers last night. Khris Davis homered for Milwaukee’s only run.

Game details are here.

The Brewers continue that home set against the Cardinals tonight. Wily Peralta will pitch against Jaime Garcia.
