Calumet V’Ball Season Ends in Quarters
The Calumet High School volleyball team fell to Roscommon 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the state volleyball tournament last night. It’s the third straight season the Copper Kings reached the quarterfinals. See video highlights from the match here.
Houghton opened the high school hockey season with a 7-0 victory over Negaunee last night. Wyatt Liston had a hat trick for the Gremlins, and Cale Markham added two goals and three assists. Marcus Gloss stopped 11 shots to earn the shutout.
Finlandia Men’s Hoops Wins
The Finlandia men’s basketball team defeated Northland International University 73-60 last night. It was the first win for new coach Mike O’Donnell, and two of his freshman recruits led the effort. Brandon Robinette from Escanaba had 20 points and eight rebounds, and Eric Lori from Negaunee added 17 points. The Lions play at Northern Michigan tonight. Tip-off is at 7:30 in Marquette.
The Finlandia women’s basketball team entertains Wisconsin-Stevens Point this evening. Tip-off is at 5:00 at the Paavo Nurmi Center.
MTU Men’s Hoops Adds Recruit
The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team has picked up a second recruit fo next season in the early signing period. Kyle Monroe from Ashwaubenon High School is a 6-6 forward. He was a first-team all-stater last season, while averaging 21 points and seven rebounds per game. Heading into his senior season, he already holds Ashwaubenon’s career scoring record.
NHL – Wings Blank Jackets
Jimmy Howard stopped 28 shots, as the Red Wings blanked the Blue Jackets 5-0 last night. Tomas Tatar and Tomas Jurco each had a goal and an assist for Detroit. The Wings skate at Winnipeg tomorrow night.
NBA – Pistons Entertain Suns
The Detroit Pistons host the Suns tonight. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
