The Calumet High School football team didn’t lose a conference game on the way to this year’s WestPAC title. The Copper Kings also dominated the post-season awards announced today. Running back Robbie Erkkila was named the conference Offensive Player of the Year; linebacker Sam Kariniemi was named Defensive Player of the Year, and coach John Croze was named Coach of the Year.
Teammates joining Erkkila on the first team offense included quarterback Russ Bjorn, and lineman Jack Hyrkas. Linemen Jake Anderson, Tyler Rautio and Ben Moyryla joined Kariniemi on the first team defense, along with defensive back Rory Anderson.
Houghton placed running back Sam Collaer, and linemen David Alger and Tanner Holombo on the first team offense. Lineman Jeremy Chaney of the Gremlins was named to the first team defense. Sean Hyslop was honored both as a defensive back and a kicker.
End Chad Raasio and lineman Reece Anderson represented Hancock on the first team offense, and linebacker Isaiah Bekkala made the first team defense.
From L’Anse, running back Ryan Beauprey, lineman Davan Ravindran and punter Michael Anderson were selected to the first team offense. Anderson was also named a first team defensive lineman.
