The Detroit Red Wings won their fifth straight game last night, outskating the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2. Dylan Larkin scored his first two goals of the season. Petr Mrazek made 29 saves. The Wings face the Blues in St. Louis tomorrow night.

Corey Kluber, Andrew Miller and Cody Allen combined to strike out 15 Chicago Cubs, as the Cleveland Indians won the first game of the World Series 5-0 last night. Roberto Perez homered twice for the Indians. Game two will be played tonight in Cleveland.

The Detroit Lions have traded linebacker Kyle Van Noy to the New England Patriots. Details of the trade have not been officially announced, but several reports indicate the Lions also gave up a seventh-round draft choice in 2017. In exchange, they will get New England’s sixth-round choice in 2017. Van Noy was Detroit’s second-round pick in 2014. To fill his roster spot, the Lions re-signed linebacker Josh Bynes, whom they had cut in the preseason because of an injury.
