• Houghton defeated Chassell 63-42. Stella Wickstrom had 19 points for the Gremlins, and Paige DeForge added 16. Maelene Warren paced the Panthers with 19 points, and Trisha Pietila had 14.
• Calumet shut down Iron Mountain 69-20. Elli Djerf led the Copper Kings with 17 points, and Marybeth Halonen chipped in 13.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City lost to Bessemer 59-37.
• Jeffers outscored Wakefield-Marenisco 79-41.
• L’Anse stifled Republic-Michigamme 58-20.
• Ewen-Trout Creek downed Ironwood 53-34. Elise Besonen had 21 points for Ewen.

• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City downed Bessemer 75-53.
• Jeffers stopped Wakefield-Marenisco 79-41.
• L’Anse defeated Republic-Michigamme 60-45.
• Ewen-Trout Creek outscored Ironwood 67-39. Jaden Borseth scored 25 for the Panthers.
Lake Linden-Hubbell’s games against Watersmeet were canceled because Watersmeet has suspended face-to-face activities. Lakes athletic director Jack Kumpula tells us the games will probably not be made up.

College Hockey
The Finlandia University hockey team lost 6-3 to Concordia-Wisconsin last night. The Falcons took an early lead with a pair of power play goals midway through the first period. Goals from Tyler Vanuden, Sheldon Brett and Blake Gutterman kept the Lions in it, until Concordia put the game away with a couple of late tallies. Ben Kelsch made 42 saves, and took the loss. Those teams play again tomorrow in Mequon.
The Michigan Tech hockey team entertains Ferris State University tonight and tomorrow night. This will be this year’s Winter Carnival series, with the winner claiming the John MacInnes Trophy.
The MTU series against Lake Superior State University that was postponed earlier this season will be made up on the next two Tuesdays, with each game in Houghton.
The Northern Michigan University hockey team skates at Bemidji State University tonight and tomorrow night.
College Basketball
The Michigan Tech basketball teams will face Davenport University this afternoon and tomorrow. The women will host, and the men will play in Grand Rapids.
The NMU basketball teams face Grand Valley State this weekend. The men play in Grand Rapids this afternoon and tomorrow. The women are in Marquette tomorrow and Sunday.
The Finlandia University men’s basketball team will play at Iowa Wesleyan University tomorrow afternoon. Their scheduled game at Nebraska Wesleyan University Sunday has been called off, and replaced with a game at Coe College.
NHL
Dante Fabbro’s goal with one minute remaining lifted the Nashville Predators to a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings last night. Robby Fabbri and Marc Staal scored for Detroit. Thomas Griess made 20 saves, and took another tough loss in net.
The Wings skate at Nashville again tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons fell to the Indiana Pacers 111-95 last evening. Detroit played without center Mason Plumlee, who was a late scratch because of an elbow problem. With Jahlil Okafor sidelined after knee surgery, that left rookie Isaiah Stewart as Detroit’s only true center. He responded with 17 points and seven rebounds in his first NBA start. Josh Jackson led the team with 18 points and eight rebounds.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers have added another outfielder, signing Nomar Mazara to a one-year, $1.75 million deal. Mazara brings some power, but strikes out a lot, and is considered a sub-par defender.
