Calumet Hockey Blanks Marquette – Wednesday Sports Wrap

In high school boys basketball last night…
• Houghton fell to Kingsford 73-47.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City defeated Calumet 57-45.

• Lake Linden Hubbell got past Hancock 39-34.

In girls hoops action last night…
• Houghton routed L’Anse 72-35. Unofficially, Stella Wickstrom led the Gremlins with 21 points, and Meghan Trewhella added 17. Taylor Sanregret scored 12 for the Purple Hornets.
• Hancock outscored Ewen-Trout Creek 52-41.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell bolted out to an early lead, and shut down Chassell 56-29. Emily Jokela scored 15 points in the first quarter, and led all scorers with 22 for the game. Trishis Pietila paced the Panthers with 11.
• Baraga stifled Jeffers 52-13. Corina Jahfetson led the Vikings with 15 points, and Reide Osterman added 14. Sara Johnson scored six for the Jets.
• Ontonagon stomped Bessemer 56-20.

In high school hockey last night…
• Calumet blanked Marquette 2-0
Dan Loukus and Paul Sturos each had a goal and an assist for the Copper Kings. Aksel Loukus made 43 saves, as the Redmen outshot Calumet 43-13.

In hockey this evening…
• Hancock entertains Jeffers.

College Volleyball

Michigan Tech volleyball standouts Laura De Marchi and Anna Jonynas have been named American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Americans. De Marchi was placed on the First Team, and Jonynas was honored on the Second Team.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons host the Washington Wizards tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings’ five-game win streak ended with a 5-2 loss to the Nashville Predators last night. Robby Fabbri and Michael Rasmussen scored, as Nashville held Detroit to just 16 shots. Alex Nedeljkovic took the loss in net.

The Wings visit the Saint Louis Blues tomorrow. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, Wings coverage will begin at 7:45 on KBear 102.3. 

Former Michigan Tech hockey player Jujhar Khaira was knocked out cold during the Chicago Blackhawks’ loss to the New York Rangers last night. Khaira was hit high and hard by New York’s Jacob Trouba. He fell to the ice immediately. Paramedics placed him on a stretcher, and brought him to a hospital, where he was said to be alert, and talking with staff members.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers have confirmed that quarterback Jordan Love will not be available for Sunday’s game. He’s been placed on the COVID-19 list. Kurt Benkert has been activated off the practice squad to back up Aaron Rodgers. Former LSU quarterback Danny Etling has been signed to the practice squad.
