• In a game that was tight from start to finish, Calumet shaded Houghton 55-53. Elli Djerf powered the Copper Kings with 24 points. Stella Wickstrom had 23 for the Gremlins, and Maryellen Trehella added 15.
• Baraga shut down Bessemer 61-15.
• Ontonagon defeated Jeffers 45-23.
• L’Anse overpowered Lake Linden-Hubbell 71-24. Maija Rice led the Purple Hornets with 32.
• Ewen-Trout Creek routed Republic-Michigamme 71-24.
In boys play last night…
• Houghton lost to Iron Mountain 56-22.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell defeated L’Anse 65-52.
• Jeffers routed Ontonagon 82-22. Johnny Schutz sank nine three-pointers, and led the Jets with 31. Christian Hocking added 21. Tomas Immonen scored nine for the Gladiators.
• Ewen-Trout Creek dominated Republic-Michigamme 83-35. Jaden Borseth scored 27 for the Panthers, and Eric Abramson added 26.

• Houghton split with Kingsford. The boys won 99-54, and the girls suffered a narrow 81-76 loss. Multiple winners included Leah Komarzec in the girls 50 and 100 freestyles, Archer Olson in the boys 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and Davin Evans in the boys 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team faces Northern Michigan University this weekend. Games start at 7:07 tonight in Houghton, and 6:07 tomorrow in Marquette.
The Finlandia University hockey team is off this weekend.
College Basketball
The Finlandia University women’s basketball team held off Wisconsin-Superior 67-65 last night. Katie Lundeen led the Lions with 23 points. Two free throws by Carsyn Osterman in the closing seconds sealed the win. It was the first victory by Finlandia over the Yellowjackets in 14 years.
The Finlandia women’s team will host Bryant and Stratton College from Buffalo, New York, tomorrow afternoon. The men’s team will play at Gogebic Community College tomorrow.
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wraps up its regular-season basketball schedule this weekend.
Michigan Tech faces Wisconsin-Parkside, with the women at home this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon, and the men in Kenosha this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon.
The Northern Michigan University women’s team hosts Purdue Northwest this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon. The men’s games against the Pride have been canceled because of recent COVID-19 testing results for the Wildcats. With the conference tournament starting next week, this weekend’s games will not be made up.
College Volleyball
The Tech volleyball team plays at Northwood University tomorrow and Sunday.
The Northern volleyball squad hosts Saginaw Valley State University this afternoon and tomorrow.
College Soccer
The Finlandia University men’s soccer team has added a new player. Sabur Abudu is a forward from Houston, Texas.
NHL
Sam Gagner’s hat trick led the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators last night. Luke Glendening and Adam Erne also scored, and Jonathan Bernier made 37 saves.
