In high school boys basketball last evening, Calumet outscored Ontonagon 63-51.

In girls hoops last evening…
– Calumet defeated Houghton 54-45. Elli Djerf of the Copper Kings led all scorers with 22 points. Josie Connors scored 18 for the Gremlins.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell smothered Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 61-11.
– Chassell downed Jeffers 49-30.
– Ontonagon beat Baraga 47-36.
– Ewen-Trout Creek stopped Wakefield-Marenisco 48-26.

In high school swimming yesterday, Houghton v Westwood – no report.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings scored three times in the third period, and claimed a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks last night. Anthony Mantha tied the contest, Gustav Nyquist scored the game-winner, and Darren Helm netted a late insurance tally. Jimmy Howard stopped 23 shots for the win. Fishing
The Michigan Tech Fishing Club will host an ice fishing tournament Saturday on Chassell Bay. It’s open to everyone. The tourney will be based in Centennial Park. Onsite registration Saturday morning will cost $15.00, but advance registration is free. Sign up, and get more details, here.
