In boys high school basketball district semifinals last night…
– Division Three – Calumet advanced with a 50-40 victory over L’Anse. The game was tied 9-9 after the first quarter, but the Copper Kings took control in the second quarter, and led by 13 at halftime. Iron Mountain cruised past Ironwood 87-49 in the other semifinal. The district championship will be played tomorrow night at 7:00 in Iron Mountain. Our broadcast will begin around 6:35 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– Division Four, District 98 – Chassell ousted Baraga 69-33. Dollar Bay-Tamarack City held off Jeffers 66-57. The Panthers and Blue Bolts will meet for the title tomorrow at 7:00 at Chassell.
– Division Four, District 97 – Ewen-Trout Creek advanced with a 57-45 victory over Ontonagon. Bessemer won by forfeit over Watersmeet. Watersmeet schools are closed because of illness, although it’s not the COVID-19 coronavirus. The Panthers and Speedboys will play for the crown tomorrow at 7:00 at Ontonagon.
Girls regional finals will be played tonight…
– In Diversion Four, the game between L’Anse and Baraga has been moved from Kingsford to the SDC. The contest will tip off at 7:00.
We’ll find out later this morning what fans – if any – will be allowed to see the upcoming games. With the growing threat from the COVID-19 coronavirus, the Michigan High School Athletic Association is reassessing its spectator policy. Last evening, the organization said it remains committed to continuing its tournaments. However, fan access may be limited. Officials have promised to release a decision by 10:00 this morning about attendance at games through Saturday. It would include tonight’s girls regional basketball finals, tomorrow’s boys basketball district championships, and the hockey semifinal and championship games tomorrow and Saturday. We’ll keep you posted.

USA Hockey has canceled all of its national championship tournaments. The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association has canceled all of its remaining state tournament games.
Members of the Houghton High School senior class will face a team of teachers in a fundraiser tonight. Tickets are $4.00 for adults, $2.00 for students, and $10.00 for a family. Tipoff is at 6:30 at the school gym. Proceeds will benefit the senior all-night lock-in party that will take place in May.
Western Collegiate Hockey Association
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association is promising an announcement today about COVID-19-related spectator limitations at this weekend’s tournament semifinals. Michigan Tech will face Minnesota State beginning tomorrow night in Mankato.
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
Spectators will not be permitted as the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team opens the NCAA tournament Saturday in Indianapolis. The NCAA will allow only family members and essential staffers to attend its basketball tournament contests.

Michigan Tech will suspend face-to-face classroom instruction when classes resume after spring break on Monday. For now, though, activities at the Tech athletic department will proceed as scheduled.
Finlandia
Thomas Goodman has been named the first Director of Esports at Finlandia University. Goodman has been director and coach of Esports at Sienna Heights University in Adrian, and is a former world-class competitive gamer. He is also a former soccer coach.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons lost to the Philadelphia 76ers 124-106 last night. Christian Wood scored a career-best 32 points.
It may have been the final game this season for Detroit. After a Utah Jazz player tested positive for COVID-19 infection, the NBA announced last evening that it has suspended competition indefinitely. The Pistons played the Jazz last weekend. Detroit players have been advised to self-quarantine.

The Detroit Red Wings are scheduled to visit the Washington Capitals this evening. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
The NHL released a statement yesterday acknowledging the NBA’s decision to suspend its season. The hockey league promised an update today.
MLB
In spring baseball yesterday, the Detroit Tigers had yesterday off. They’ll play the Atlanta Braves this afternoon.
The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1 last night. Freddy Peralta gave up a run in the second inning, then left as L-A scored three more in the fifth.
The Brewers split their squad for games against the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies today.
