High School

In girls regional basketball semifinals tonight…
• In Division Four, Baraga faces Ewen-Trout Creek at Jeffers High School at 7:00. Carney-Nadeau and Munising meet in the other semifinal.
• In Division Three, Calumet plays Menominee at West Iron County High School. Coverage begins at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. St. Ignace and Alcona play in the other semifinal.

College Soccer

The MTU soccer team lost 3-1 to Northern Michigan University yesterday. Haley Ruiter scored the Huskies’ only goal.

College Baseball

The Finlandia University softball team swept its doubleheader at Northland College yesterday, 4-1 and 6-5. In the first game, Megan Corrigan’s RBI single in the top of the seventh inning broke a 1-1 tie. Kyndell Coffman earned the win, giving up a run on six hits over seven innings. Rheanna Bain had two hits in the opener, and three hits with two RBI and two runs scored in the nightcap.

College Hockey

The Frozen Four is set. Minnesota State reached the semifinals of the NCAA Division I hockey tournament for the first time by defeating Minnesota 4-0 yesterday. The Mavericks will face Saint Cloud State April 8th. Minnesota-Duluth will play Massachusetts in the other semifinal.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings claimed their second straight win over the Columbus Blue Jackets yesterday, 4-1. Evgeny Svechnikov gave Detroit an early lead. After the Blue Jackets tied the game in the second period, Michael Rasmussen’s first goal of the season in the third period proved the game-winner. Filip Hronek and Vladislav Namestnikov added empty-netters. Calvin Pickard made 16 stops to earn the win in net.

The Wings visit the Florida Panthers tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons host the Toronto Raptors tonight. Coverage begins at 7:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL

Reports continue to circulate that the National Football League will soon introduce a 17-game schedule for this fall. Those reports also indicate that the Detroit Lions’ extra game will be against the Broncos, in Denver. The Packers would face the Kansas City Chiefs.

MLB

In Grapefruit League baseball, the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays played to a 4-4 tie yesterday. The Jays scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to knot the score. Tarik Skubal gave up a run on three hits over five innings. Nomar Mazara homered.

The Tigers face the New York Yankees this afternoon. José Ureña will start for Detroit. 

In Cactus League action, the Milwaukee Brewers blasted the Cincinnati Reds 7-1 yesterday. Corbin Burnes allowed a run on three hits over five innings, and struck out nine. Avisaíl García homered.

The Brewers will play the Texas Rangers tonight. Adrian Houser is scheduled to start.

Milwaukee reliever Justin Topa will start the season on the injured list, after experiencing elbow discomfort while pitching on Saturday.
