C2C Conference Cancels Winter Sports – Thursday Sports Wrap

Finlandia

The new Coast to Coast Athletic Conference has canceled all league competitions for its fall and winter sports.

The announcement means that there will be no tournaments for winter sports, and no delayed tournaments for fall sports next spring.

Finlandia University is a member of the Coast to Coast conference for several sports, including basketball in the winter. Like many members of the C2C, the Lions play a non-conference regular season schedule. Finlandia Athletic Director Curtis Wittenberg said the university is still hopeful that some games can be arranged.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers have offered contracts to all nine of their arbitration-eligible players.

The group includes pitchers Matthew Boyd, Daniel Norris, Michael Fulmer, Buck Farmer, Joe Jimenez and José Cisnero, infielders Jeimer Candelario and Niko Goodrum, and outfielder JaCoby Jones.

The move keeps the players under team control. If contracts aren’t agreed to by January 15th, each side will submit figures for arbitration.

The Brewers had 10 arbitration-eligible players. Reliever Alex Claudio, outfielder Ben Gamel, and utility player Jace Peterson were not offered contracts by yesterday’s deadline. They become free agents. Reliver Josh Hader and starter Brandon Woodruff have been offered contracts, and remain arbitration candidates. Shortstop Orlando Arcia, designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach, and catchers Omar Narváez and Manny Piña have already signed one-year contracts.

The 10th player has been traded. Reliever Cory Knebel has been sent to the Dodgers in exchange for cash or a player to be named later. Knebel struggled last summer, as he tried to return from Tommy John surgery.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons have signed free agent guard Wayne Ellington. Ellington also played for Detroit in the 2018-19 season, averaging 12 points per game. He played for the Knicks last season, and has also spent time with seven other NBA teams.

The Pistons have also signed forward LiAngelo Ball. He is the brother of Lonzo and LaMelo Ball. It’s a one-year, non-guaranteed deal, which will probably land LiAngelo with Detroit’s G League team. He played pro ball in Lithuania last season.

NFL

Week 12 of the NFL season finally ended yesterday, as the unbeaten Pittsburgh Steelers edged the Baltimore Ravens 19-14.

Because the Ravens played yesterday, their game against the Dallas Cowboys that had been scheduled for tonight has been moved back to Tuesday.

If you played The Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you must have selected at least 13 games correctly to be eligible to become this week’s winner. Kevin and Jeff will reveal their picks this afternoon. Please have your selections turned in by noon tomorrow at one of our sponsors.
