  • Baraga stopped Jeffers 54-27.
  • Ontonagon shut down Watersmeet 68-23.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University men’s basketball team lost 83-77 to Silver Lake College yesterday. Dylan Underwood led a balanced Lions attack with 16 points. Tyler Browner and Jamal DeShields-Beard each added 15, and Austin Carlson had 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The Finlandia University women’s hockey team wraps up its season with games tonight and tomorrow at Aurora University.

The Finlandia men’s soccer team has added an international student. Akwasi Kwarteng is from Ghana, although he played high school and club soccer in Utah.

MTU/NMU

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams play at Lake Superior State University tonight.

Both Northern Michigan University hoops teams tip off at Ferris State University this evening.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons’ four-game win streak ended with a 120-112 loss to the Boston Celtics last night. Blake Griffin scored 32 points. Andre Drummond had 21 points and 17 rebounds. Because of the All-Star break, the Pistons are off until next Friday, when they visit the Atlanta Hawks.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings host the Ottawa Senators this evening. Pregame coverage will start at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

Youth Hockey

The Kiwanis 19U girls hockey team is raising money for their upcoming trip to the state playoffs in Lapeer. Drop-off sites for returnable cans and bottles will be set up this weekend at Tadych’s Econo Foods and Pat’s Food’s in Hancock. They’ll also hold a bake sale Saturday from noon until 3:00 at the Houghton County Arena.

Our Finlandia University hockey coverage continues this weekend, as the men’s team opens the Harris Cup Tournament at Saint Norbert College. Pregame shows will begin at 7:40 tomorrow and Saturday evenings on 99.3 The Lift, and 993TheLift.com.
