The Michigan Tech volleyball team’s victory over top-ranked Minnesota-Duluth at the Wildcat Invitational this weekend earned them some honorable mention votes in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Unbeaten Northern Michigan University, which also defeated Minnesota-Duluth over the weekend, entered the poll at number-23.

MLB
The Chicago White Sox scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning yesterday, and defeated the Detroit Tigers 4-2. The outburst came against closer Shane Greene, who gave up a solo home run to Daniel Palka, and a game-winning, two-run shot to Matt Davidson. The meltdown spoiled a good start by Michael Fulmer, who gave up a solo home run on his first pitch, then did not allow another hit before leaving the game in the sixth inning. He departed after taking a batted ball off his right shin. He suffered a bad bruise, and is considered day-to-day. Niko Goodrum and Victor Martinez homered for Detroit.

The Tigers continue that series against the White Sox in Chicago tonight. Francisco Liriano will start against Lucas Giolito. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers scored in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge the Chicago Cubs 4-3 yesterday. The winning run came in after Christian Yelich hit a ground ball to third base with one out and the bases loaded. Instead of throwing home to stop the run at the plate, Chicago third baseman Kris Bryant stepped on the bag, and threw to first to try to end the game with a double play. Yelich beat the throw to first, to enable the winning run to score.

The Brewers now trail Chicago by four games in the National League Central Division, and host the Cubs again tonight. Wade Miley will pitch against Mike Montgomery.

Our high school football coverage continues Friday evening, as Calumet entertains Westwood. The broadcast will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3, KBear102.com, and the KBear Apple and Android apps.
