MLB
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and entertain the Cleveland Indians tonight. Mike Fiers will start against Carlos Carrasco. Pregame coverage begins at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers scored five runs in the final two innings, then held on to defeat the San Francisco Giants 7-5 last night. The Crew broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth, with RBI singles from Ryan Braun and Erik Kratz. The Giants got one back in the bottom of the eighth. In the top of the ninth, Jesús Aguilar’s RBI single and Travis Shaw’s two-run homer padded the Brewers’ lead. San Francisco scored twice off Corey Knebel in the bottom of the ninth, but Knebel struck out Nick Hundley to end the game. Christian Yelich homered and scored three time for Milwaukee.

The Brewers will play the Giants in San Francisco again tonight. Chase Anderson will pitch against Madison Bumgarner.

Milwaukee added a veteran arm to their bullpen yesterday by acquiring reliever Joakim Soria from the White Sox. In exchange, Chicago gets two pitching prospects – lefty Kodi Medeiros, a former first-round draft pick who was pitching at Double-A Biloxi, and righty Wilber Perez, who was playing in the Dominican Summer League.

Twilight League
In Copper Country Twilight League baseball last night…
– The game between Superior National Bank-Stanton and REL-Mohawk Technologies was rained out, and will be made up August 2nd.
– No word was received about the game between Dean Kangas-State Farm and Wolverine-Orbit.

NCAA Hockey
A proposal by the NCAA to ban the use of three-on-three overtime periods and shootouts to allocate conference standings points for college hockey games has been rejected. Instead, the Playing Rules Oversight Panel has formally approved those procedures. The panel has also increased the number of skaters allowed on each college team from 18 to 19, and has approved the use of video replays to review situations in which a player may be ejected.

High School
The Lake Linden varsity volleyball team will hold a car wash and bake sale tomorrow between noon and 4:00 in the high school parking lot. They’ll also be accepting returnable cans and bottles.
