MLB
Mallex Smith’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Seattle Mariners to a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers last night. Detroit took an early lead, with solo homers by Brandon Dixon and John Hicks. Daniel Norris tossed six scoreless innings, but left after giving up a two-run homer to tie the game in the seventh. José Cisnero took the loss.
The Tigers continue that series in Seattle this afternoon. Tyler Alexander will pitch against Marco Gonzales. Pregame coverage will start at 3:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Tigers television broadcasts have disappeared from the Dish Satellite Network. Dish has pulled the plug on all of Fox’s regional sports networks because of a contract dispute. Word is that the two sides are not close to a resolution.
Ben Gamel singled home two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Milwaukee Brewers shaded the Chicago Cubs 3-2 last evening. Gio Gonzalez gave up two runs, but left in the seventh inning with shoulder tightness.
The Brewers host the Cubs again tonight. Chase Anderson will start against Jon Lester.
It’s the third time in the last six days that a Brewers starter has left a game early with an injury. Brandon Woodruff and Jhoulys Chacín both landed on the injured list. Gonzalez will be evaluated today.
