MLB

The Tigers fell 4-1 to the Yankees last night. Reese Olson pitched into the fifth, allowed one run, and struck out 10. New York scored two off Beau Brieske in the seventh, and one off José Cisnero in the eighth. Detroit’s only run came on an Akil Baddoo pinch-hit homer in the bottom of the ninth.

The Tigers host the Yankees again this evening. Tarik Skubal will start against Michael King. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers scored four runs in the top of the first inning, and cruised past the Cubs 6-2 last night. Christian Yelich blasted a lead-off home run, and Mark Canha added a two-run shot. Wade Miley allowed two runs over six innings, as the Crew won their ninth straight game, and opened up a five-game lead over Chicago in the National League Central Division.

The Brewers visit the Cubs again tonight. Corbin Burnes will start against Justin Steele.

Milwaukee has placed starter Adrian Houser on the injured list. He left Sunday’s game after two innings with stiffness in his elbow. The injury is not believed to be serious.

NFL

The cuts continue, as NFL teams trim their rosters for the start of the regular season. Detroit’s releases include quarterback Adrian Martinez, the undrafted free agent who saw considerable action in the final preseason game. The move leaves Detroit with two healthy quarterbacks. Projected third-stringer Nate Sudfeld is still getting opinions on how to treat the knee injury he suffered in Friday’s final preseason game.

The Packers released punter Pat O’Donnell.

Ride the Keweenaw

Registration continues for Ride the Keweenaw this weekend in Copper Harbor. The event includes an array of mountain bike races for veterans and beginners, along with a 10k trail run. Some events are full, but others still have room. Click here for full details and sign-up information.
