MLB
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and begin a series against the Athletics in Oakland tonight. Blaine Hardy will start against Brett Anderson. Pregame coverage begins at 9:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Los Angeles Dodgers shellacked the Milwaukee Brewers 21-5 last night. The 21 runs scored and seven home runs for L-A set new Dodger Stadium records. The 21 runs allowed established a dubious new Milwaukee record. Jhoulys Chacín was charged with nine runs before leaving in the fifth inning. Matt Albers was charged with three runs, and Taylor Williams gave up four. Infielder Hernán Pérez pitched the eighth, and allowed five runs. Catcher Erik Kratz pitched a scoreless ninth. Christian Yelich and Jesús Aguilar homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers return home to host the Colorado Rockies tonight. Junior Guerra will pitch against German Márquez.

MTU
The Michigan Tech volleyball team has been picked to finish second in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division this fall. The coaches’ poll released yesterday has Ferris State at the top of the Division. The Bulldogs have won the previous four division titles. Northern Michigan University was voted third.

MTU will give local kids a chance to be part of the pregame ceremonies for this season’s football, hockey, basketball and volleyball games. For football games, the selected youngster will run the ball to the refs and stand on the sideline for the kickoff. At hockey games, he or she will lead the Huskies on to the ice and stand with them for the National Anthem. For basketball and volleyball contests, he or she will give the game ball to the referees, and sit on the bench with the team through the first quarter or set. The effort is part of the MIKidsCan campaign being promoted by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan. Participants will be selected by random drawing.
