MLB

The Tigers had yesterday off, and host the Rays tonight. Reese Olson will pitch against Zack Littell. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit has released pitcher Franklin Pérez. Pérez was the top chip in the trade that sent Justin Verlander to the Astros six years ago. A series of injuries immediately derailed his career. He pitched just 27 innings in the major leagues, before undergoing major shoulder surgery in 2021.

The Brewers rapped out 16 hits, and buried the Pirates 14-1 last evening. The attack included homers from Brice Turang and Sal Frelick, who drove in five runs. Adrian Houser gave up a run on four hits over six innings.

The Brewers entertain the Pirates again this evening. Colin Rae will start against Quinn Priester.

The Reds lost to the Cubs last night, so Milwaukee moves back into the lead in the National League Central Division, with a half-game margin.

Brandon Woodruff appears to be on track to start Milwaukee’s game against the Pirates Sunday. Woodruff has been on the injured list since early April. The Brewers also brought third baseman Brian Anderson off the injured list, and sent Abraham Toro back to Nashville. Former Tiger Andrew Chafin made his Milwaukee debut last evening, after he was acquired from the Diamondbacks. Trevor Magill was sent down to make room on the roster.

Twilight League

In Copper Country Twilight Baseball League play last night…
• Northern Driveline shaded Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker 6-5.
• REL-Mohawk Technology outscored Houghton Building Supply-Stanton 9-6.

NFL

The Lions have added veteran tight end Darrell Daniels to their roster. He spent several seasons with the Cardinals.

The Browns defeated the Jets 21-16 in last night’s Hall of Fame exhibition contest. Aaron Rodgers did not play for New York – he’s been limited because of a calf injury, and team officials say he may not play in the preseason at all.

Both the Lions and the Packers open their exhibition schedules a week from tonight.

Great Deer Chase

The annual Great Deer Chase mountain bike races will be held tomorrow at the Swedetown Trails. Kids activities start with an untimed 50-yard race for tots at 11:20, and timed two-mile and four-mile races at 11:30. The 15-mile and 30-mile adult events begin at 1:00.
