MLB

The Tigers had yesterday off, and entertain the Athletics tonight. Tarik Skubal returns from 11 months on the injured list to start against J.P. Sears. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit outfielder Riley Green began a rehab assignment with the Mud Hens last night. Greene has been out since late May with a stress reaction in a leg bone. He joins outfielder Akil Baddoo, who is also rehabbing with Toledo.

The Brewers scored five late runs, and came from behind to beat the Pirates 8-6 yesterday. Christian Yelich had three hits and drove in three runs, but the big blow was a three-run double by pinch-hitter Jahmai Jones that tied the contest in the seventh. It was Jones’ first major league at-bat in two years. He had been signed by Milwaukee Sunday, after recovering from Tommy John ligament replacement surgery, and opting out of a minor league contract with the Dodgers.

The Brewers host the Cubs again this afternoon. Wade Miley will pitch against Kyle Hendricks.

Twilight League Baseball

The Copper Country Twilight Baseball League is off for the holiday. The Copper Country Slow Pitch, Fast Pitch and Horseshoe Leagues were also idle last night.

NHL

The Red Wings have placed forward Filip Zadina on waivers. Zadina was Detroit’s first round draft pick in 2018, and is entering the second year of a three-year contract. His production has been disappointing, though, and he missed significant time last season because of injury. He had asked the team to be traded, but Detroit found no one interested. Any team can claim Zadina by noon today for no cost. If none does, he can remain with the Detroit organization.

The Wings also signed forward Nolan Stevens to a one-year, two-way contract. He played for the Devils’ Utica Comets minor league team last season.
