MLB
The Detroit Tigers lost to the Minnesota Twins 5-3 last night. Daniel Norris threw five shutout innings, but left the game as Minnesota scored two in the sixth. The Twins added three off Sandy Baez in the seventh. Mikie Mahtook drove in all three Detroit runs with a triple in the bottom of the seventh, and a single in the bottom of the ninth.
The Tigers host the Twins again this afternoon. Spencer Turnbull will make his first major league start against Gabriel Moya. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer may undergo surgery for his injured knee as soon as tomorrow. Fulmer suffered a torn meniscus in Saturday’s game. He has a final consultation scheduled for today.
The Milwaukee Brewers collected just three hits, and fell to the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 last evening. Chase Anderson didn’t make it through the fourth inning, gave up all three Cincy runs, and took the loss. Travis Shaw had to leave the game with a bruised knee, and Lorenzo Cain exited with tightness in his rib cage. Both are considered questionable for tonight’s contest.
The Cubs won, so Milwaukee now trails Chicago by three-and-a-half games in the National League Central Division. The Cardinals also won, so the Brewers’ lead in the wild card chase is down to two games. Milwaukee will wrap up that home set against the Reds tonight. Gio Gonzalez will pitch against Matt Harvey.
The Milwaukee minor league team structure will be changing next season. The owners of their Triple-A affiliate in Colorado Springs will move the team to San Antonio. It will take over operations of the current San Antonio Missions team, which will move up to Triple A after more than a century in the Double-A Texas League. The Missions will become Milwaukee’s top affiliate. The same ownership group will move its rookie-level team from Helena, Montana, into Colorado Springs. It will also be a Brewers affiliate.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings open the NHL exhibition season tonight at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Listen for regular-season Red Wings games this season on 99.3 The Lift.
