The Royals surged ahead with a two-run homer off Drew VerHagen in the seventh, then put the game away with three more off Chad Bell and Shane Greene in the eighth. Jeimer Candelario drove in three Detroit runs.

The Milwaukee Brewers were officially eliminated from the National League Central Division race last night, with a 6-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. The Brewers wrap up that home set against the Reds this afternoon. Brent Suter will start against Sal Romano.

Milwaukee slugger Marcus Thames left last night’s game after fouling a ball off his foot. X-rays showed no significant damage, but he’s questionable for tonight’s contest.
