Brewers Earn Shutout – Tuesday Sports Wrap

MLB – Brewers Throw Shutout
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and open a home set against the Oakland Athletics tonight. Alfredo Simon will start against Kendall Graveman. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers made a first-inning run stand up, as the edged the Saint Louis Cardinals 1-0 last night. Carlos Gomez’ RBI single proved to be the game-winner. Mike Fiers gave up four hits over six innings to get the win.

The Brewers play in Saint Louis again tonight. After seven seasons in the minor leagues, Tyler Cravy will make his major league debut for the Brewers. Lance Lynn will pitch for the Cardinals.

In Copper Country Slow Pitch League softball action last night…
– At Miller Memorial Field in Laurium, Post 90/Lakes Lounge shut down Tech 9-3.  Dean Scherbring got the win, and Jason Sedar had three hits for Post 90. Auto Value broke open a close game with seven runs in the eighth inning, and beat Nutini’s 20-11. Nate McMullen had six hits for Auto Value.
– At the Hancock Driving Park, The Marley Bar opened with six runs in the first inning, then held off a ninth-inning rally to edge Matt’s Auto Glass 14-13. Brent Jurmu had four hits, including two triples. Matt’s then stopped Monte Carlo/Coca Cola 19-4. Jurmu had four more hits, and Nathan Kinnunen homered.

In Copper Country Twilight League action tonight…
– At the Hancock Driving Park, Blue Sky Health faces Pat’s Foods/Mosquito Inn.
– At the Wolverine Field, the Stanton Wildcats meet Wolverine/Orbit.

High School
In the high school softball tournament yesterday, Lake Linden-Hubbell fell to Ishpeming 10-2 in the Division Four District semifinal at Norway.

Finlandia Baseball Adds Two
The Finlandia University baseball team has added two more players to next year’s roster. Joey Krug is a pitcher and infielder from San Diego. Sergio Pena is a pitcher from Miami. Find out more about them here.

The annual Joe Evans Classic Golf Outing to raise money for Omega House will be held Friday at the Portage Lake course. Registration begins at 9:30, followed by a putting contest at 10:00. The tournament begins at 11:00. For details and registration information, click here.
