High School

The high school volleyball season arrives with tune-up events for a couple of local teams tomorrow.
• Houghton plays at a tournament at Sault Ste. Marie.
• Baraga plays at the West Iron County Tournament.

College Soccer

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team has added a new recruit. Christian Mendoza was a first-team all-conference player at Fennville High School downstate.

MLB

The Tigers had yesterday off, and host the Angels this evening. Matt Manning will start against Patrick Sandoval. Coverage begins at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers earned a split of their four-game series against the Dodgers with a 5-3 victory yesterday. Corbin Burnes tossed five scoreless innings, but left as L.A. scored three times in the sixth. He earned the win. Devin Williams struck out the side in the ninth to claim the save. Andrew McCutcheon blasted two home runs, and Hunter Renfroe hit one out.

The Brewers visit the Cubs this afternoon. Aaron Ashby will pitch against Keegan Thompson.

Pitcher J.C. Mejía is back on the field. Mejía has finished an 80-game suspension for violating the league’s drug policy. Milwaukee assigned him to Triple-A Nashville yesterday. To make room on the 40-man roster, catcher Jakson Reetz was designated for assignment.

NFL

The Packers play their second preseason game tonight, at home against the Saints. Kickoff is at 7.

The Lions continue their exhibition campaign tomorrow, with a 1:00 game at Indianapolis.

Biking

Registration is still open for tomorrow’s Aspirus Great Deer Chase mountain bike races at the Swedetown Trails. Events this year include 30 and 15-mile races for all ages, a four-mile race for those 14 and under, a two-mile race for those 10 and under, and an untimed event for kids eight and under.
