Brewers Crash in Playoffs – Thursday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school volleyball last night…
• Baraga got past Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 16-25, 25-21).

On the volleyball schedule this evening…
• Calumet journeys to Gwinn.
• Houghton plays at Lake Linden-Hubbell.
• Hancock visits L’Anse.
• Chassell welcomes Wakefield-Marenisco.

At the Ewen-Trout Creek Invitational cross country meet yesterday…
• Jeffers took the boys title, with Dollar Bay-Tamarack City second, and Chassell fourth. Chassell’s Kalvin Kytta took first place individually, with Landon Larson and Cameron Anderson finishing second and third. Joshua Guant of the Blue Bolts placed seventh.
• No local schools had enough runners to qualify for the girls team standings. Taryn Maki of Dollar Bay took top individual honors, with Lily Etelamaki of Chassell third, and Sophie DesRochers of Baraga fourth.

NHL

The Red Wings spotted the Penguins an early goal last night, then came back to claim a 2-1 victory. Daniel Sprong and Simon Edvinsson scored for Detroit. J.T. Compher had two assists. James Reimer stopped 21 shots.

The Wings will visit the Maple Leafs this evening. Listen for regular-season Wings games on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Brewers’ season ended last night, with a 5-2 loss to the Diamondbacks in game two of their opening-round playoff series. Milwaukee grabbed an early lead with two runs in the first inning, Freddy Peralta breezed through four innings, but gave up one run in the fifth, and left as Arizona scored four times in the sixth. The Crew loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth, but Christian Yelich was cut down at home on a Sal Frelick infield grounder, and Willy Adames grounded into a force out to end the inning.

The Diamondbacks will face the Phillies in the next round. Philadelphia ousted the Marlins 7-1 last night.

The Rangers and Twins both advanced in the American League playoffs. Texas dispatched the Rays 7-1 last evening, and Minnesota eliminated the Blue Jays 2-0.

Tigers reliever Zach Logue has elected to become a free agent. Logue spent a couple of brief stretches with Detroit this season, but spent most of his time at Toledo.

NFL

In tonight’s NFL contest, the Bears visit the Commanders. Coverage begins at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.

Skiing

The annual ski swap at Mont Ripley will take place Saturday. The swap is a fundraiser for the Copper Country Snowsports Club, formerly the Mont Ripley Race Team. Gear to be sold can be dropped off at the chalet tomorrow between 5 and 8. Sale hours will be 11 until 2 Saturday, with an early bird hour from 10 to 11.
