MLB

Eduardo Rodriguez struggled yesterday, and the Tigers lost to the Red Sox 6-3. Rodriguez gave up all six Boston runs on 10 hits over five innings. Akil Baddoo homered for Detroit.

The Tigers have today off, and open a quick series at Minnesota tomorrow night. Alex Faedo will pitch against Bailey Ober. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

As expected, shortstop Javier Báez has left the team and been placed on the Bereavement List. Báez’ grandfather passed away more than a week ago in Puerto Rico, but it has taken some time for the family to make funeral arrangements. Infielder Isan Diaz, whom the Tigers claimed off waivers from the Giants last week, has been brought up from Toledo to fill in.

The Brewers completed a weekend sweep of the White Sox, with a 7-3 victory yesterday. Freddy Peralta tossed six shutout innings, allowing just four hits. Carlos Santana blasted a three-run homer. All three Chicago runs came off reliever J.C. Mejía in the ninth.

The Brewers also have today off, and begin a series at Los Angeles tomorrow night. Adrian Houser will start against Bobby Miller.

The Reds split a doubleheader, and the Cubs lost, so Milwaukee leads Chicago and Cincinnati by three-and-a-half games in the National League Central Division.

NFL

Former Lions cornerback Tae Hayes wasn’t out of work for long. After being waived by Detroit over the weekend, he was claimed by the Ravens. The Lions have filled Hayes’ spot by signing undrafted rookie Colby Richardson, out of LSU. Detroit also released offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher, who was expected to be their backup center. Pierschbacher was hurt in Friday’s preseason game, and the team reached an injury settlement with him.
