MLB
Spencer Turnbull’s first major league start was a short one, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Minnesota Twins 8-2 yesterday. Turnbull gave up six runs over four innings. Meanwhile, the Tigers got just two hits over the first eight innings. They scored twice in the ninth on a Nicholas Castellanos double, and a Mikie Mahtook sacrifice fly.

The Tigers have lost eight of their last 10 games, and host the Kansas City Royals tonight. Matthew Boyd will start against Jorge López. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on KBear 102.3.

Jesús Aguilar homered and drove in four runs, as the Milwaukee Brewers blanked the Cincinnati Reds 7-0 last evening. Manny Piña also homered, and Gio Gonzalez threw six shutout innings to earn the win.

The Cubs and Cardinals both lost, so Milwaukee now trails Chicago by two-and-a-half games in the National League Central Division, and leads Saint Louis by three games in the race for the top wild card playoff slot. The Crew has today off, and begins a series at Pittsburgh tomorrow night. Jhoulys Chacín will pitch against Ivan Nova.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings opened their exhibition season with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. Michael Rasmussen scored the game-winner 92 seconds into the extra period. Jimmy Howard and Harri Säteri split time in net, and each allowed a goal. The Wings host the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. Listen for regular-season Red Wings games this season on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
In tonight’s NFL game, the New York Jets visit the Cleveland Browns. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift. Please have your picks in The Wolf Pro Football Challenge turned in by noon today at one of our sponsors.

Our high school football coverage continues tomorrow, when Hancock plays at Munising. The pregame show will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
