– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City advanced to the quarterfinals with a thrilling 65-64 victory over Carney-Nadeau. Jaden Janke led the Blue Bolts with 23 points. Devin Schmitz added 20, including four free throws that put Dollar Bay on top by three points with a little more than two minutes remaining. The Bolts wouldn’t score again, but held the Wolves to just one two-point basket in the closing minutes. Two three-point attempts that would have won the game for Carney-Nadeau bounced off the rim in the closing seconds. Dollar Bay will face Cedarville in the quarterfinals Tuesday at 7:00 at Escanaba.
– Calumet’s tournament run ended with a 56-44 loss to Iron Mountain. The Copper Kings held a brief lead early, but played from behind most of the game. The trailed by eight at halftime, and were outscored 16-6 in the third quarter. Copper King standouts Matt Ojala and Cooper Twardzik were held to just eight points, combined. Travis Ojala led Calumet with 20 points. It was the first time a Copper Kings boys team ever played in a regional final.

Starter Jhoulys Chacín opened with three scoreless innings, but gave up three runs in the fourth. The Brewers take on the Texas Rangers this afternoon.

NFL
On the first day of the free agent signing window yesterday, the Detroit Lions released tight end Eric Ebron. The move will open up more than seven million dollars in salary cap space. Ebron was a top-10 draft pick back in 2014, never developed the consistency expected of him.

Neither the Lions nor the Green Bay Packers did anything unexpected yesterday. The Lions announced their contracts with linebackers Christian Jones, Devon Kennard and Nick Bellore, cornerbacks Nevin Lawson and DeShawn Shead, and safety Tavon Wilson.

The Packers confirmed their trade for former Browns quarterback DeShone Kizer, and ratified their deals with free agent tight end Jimmy Graham and defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson.
