Blue Bolts Win Regional Hoops Crown

High School

The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City boys basketball team won its second straight regional title last night, defeating Forest Park 64-48 at Negaunee. Connor LeClaire had 27 points. The Blue Bolts will face Pellston in the quarterfinals Tuesday at 7:00 at Escanaba.

In girls District hoops finals tonight…

In Division Three, Calumet will entertain West Iron County. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

In Division Four, District 98, Chassell will host Baraga at 7:00.

In Division Four, District 97, Jeffers will face Ewen-Trout Creek at 7:00 at Bessemer.

The Houghton High School hockey team takes on Riverview Gabriel Richard in the state tournament Division Three semifinals this morning. Pregame coverage will begin around 10:30 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University softball and baseball teams begin their Florida spring break schedules tomorrow. The softball team is in Clermont, and will face Lebanon Valley College and the University of Northwestern. The baseball team is in Fort Meyers, and will play Vassar College and Baruch College.

WCHA Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team opens the Western Collegiate Hockey Association tournament at Bowling Green State University tonight. The Huskies are seeded fifth, and the Falcons fourth.

The second-seeded Northern Michigan hockey squad will host Alaska-Anchorage in the opening round.

GLIAC Basketball

Both Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan University’s women’s basketball teams will play in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals tomorrow at Grand Valley State University. The fourth-seeded Wildcats will face the host Lakers at 2:00. The third-seeded Huskies will face second-seeded Ashland University at 4:30.

The Northern Michigan University men’s team will play top-seeded Davenport University in the GLIAC tournament semifinals in Grand Rapids tomorrow. Wisconsin-Parkside and Grand Valley State will meet in the other semifinal.

GLHL

The Calumet Wolverines will entertain the Fox Cities Ice Dogs tonight at 7:30 at the Colosseum.

The Portage Lake Pioneers will host the Ice Dogs tomorrow at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings snapped their eight-game losing streak with a 3-2 shootout win over the New York Rangers last night. Tyler Bertuzzi and Andreas Athanasiou scored in regulation. Athanasiou netted the only goal in the shootout. Jimmy Howard made 32 saves. The Wings visit the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons visit the Chicago Bulls tonight. Pregame coverage starts at 7:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost 3-1 to half of the Philadelphia Phillies in spring training action yesterday. Jordan Zimmermann gave up a run over four innings. The Tigers face the New York Yankees tonight. Listen for Tigers baseball again this season on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Chicago White Sox 9-5 yesterday. The Brewers will play the Arizona Diamondbacks this afternoon.

Great Bear Chase

The annual Great Bear Chase takes place tomorrow on the Swedetown Trails. Races include Freestyle and Classic events at 50, 25 and 10 kilometers, along with a 50k Skiathlon. Online registration has closed, but on-site registration will be open today between 4:00 and 8:30 at Calumet High School. There will be no registration tomorrow morning. Races begin between 8:30 and 9:25 tomorrow morning near Spruce Street in Calumet.

The CLK Rotary Club will serve a pre-race pasta dinner at the Siskiwit Reception Hall this evening between 4:00 and 8:00. All are welcome.

The Junior Bear Chase will be held tonight at the Swedetown Trails. On-site registration will be open between 4:00 and 5:00 at the Swedetown Chalet. A variety of races for various age groups will begin at 5:30.
