Blue Bolt Boys, MTU Women Advance in Tourneys – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School

In the boys Division Four Regional basketball semifinals at Negaunee last night, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City got off to a quick start, and advanced with a 65-56 victory over Munising. The Blue Bolts will face Forest Park for the regional title tomorrow night at 7:00 at Negaunee. The Trojans upset Bessemer 65-62.

In girls District hoops semifinals tonight…

In Division Four District 98, Chassell will host Dollar Bay-Tamarack City at 7:00. Baraga will entertain Hancock at 7:00.

In Division Four, District 97, at Bessemer, Jeffers will face Wakefield-Marenisco at 6:00 Eastern Time. Ewen-Trout Creek v Bessemer will take on Ontonagon at 7:30

In Division Three, Calumet will host Ironwood at 7:00. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:40 on 97.7 The Wolf and TheWolf.com.

In Division Two, Houghton will play at Gladstone. Pregame coverage will start at 5:40 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.

MTU/NMU

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team rode a strong second half into the final four of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament last night, earning a 78-48 victory over Northwood University. Cassidy Trotter led the Huskies with 20 points, in a game in which every Husky scored.

The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team advanced to the final four with a 65-51 win over Ferris State University.

The semifinals will be played Saturday at Grand Valley State University. NMU will play the top-seeded Lakers at 2:00. Tech will face Ashland at 4:30.

The Northern Michigan University men’s team moved into the GLIAC semifinals with an 89-73 victory over Ferris State. The Wildcats will take on tournament host Davenport University Saturday. Grand Valley and Wisconsin-Parkside will meet in the other semifinal.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings couldn’t hold a late lead, and lost to the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in overtime last night. Colorado’s Tyson Barrie scored with 95 seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra period. Niklas Kronwall, Danny DeKeyser found the net for Detroit, and rookie Filip Zadina scored his first NHL goal. The Wings entertain the New York Rangers tomorrow night. The Wings will be without defenseman Mike Green for at least a week. Green has suffered a recurrence of the virus that sidelined him last fall.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons host the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost 5-2 to the Toronto Blue Jays in Grapefruit League baseball yesterday. Brandon Dixon hit his second home run of the spring. Starter Matt Moore gave up three runs over three innings. The Tigers face the Atlanta Braves this afternoon. Listen for Tigers baseball again this season on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers shaded the Colorado Rockies 1-0 yesterday. Starter Corbin Burnes gave up three hits but no runs over three frames. The Brewers will play the Arizona Diamondbacks this afternoon.
