Blue Bolt Boys Breslin-Bound – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School

The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City boys basketball team is headed to the Division Four state semifinals, after a thrilling 67-64 victory over Pellston in the quarterfinals last night. Davin Hill led the Blue Bolts with 22 points. Ashton Janke added 18. Connor LeClaire scored 14 points, and hit two free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win. Dollar Bay will face Southfield Christian in the semifinals tomorrow at 5:30 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. It’s a rematch of last year’s state semifinal, which Southfield won 71-32.

Baraga will face Stephenson in the Division Four girls basketball tournament regional final tonight. The game begins at 7:00 Eastern Time at Kingsford. Our pregame show will start around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. A fan bus will leave Baraga High School at 4:00.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Wisconsin Lutheran College yesterday, 17-2 and 10-0. The Lions continue their Florida spring break schedule against Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham today.

The softball team had yesterday off, and will face Ohio Wesleyan University and Suffolk University today.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings lost 3-1 to the Montreal Canadiens last night. Andreas Athanasiou scored Detroit’s only goal in the third period. Jonathan Bernier stopped 33 shots. The Wings have dropped 10 of their last 11 games, and will host the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Detroit Pistons visit the Miami Heat tonight. Pregame coverage starts at 7:05 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers held off the Boston Red Sox 4-3 yesterday in Grapefruit League play. Daniel Norris allowed four hits over the first three innings, but did not give up a run. Jordy Mercer hit a home run. All of Boston’s runs came in the ninth inning. The Tigers have today off, and face the Red Sox again tomorrow afternoon. The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the San Francisco Giants 4-2 in Cactus League action last night. Zach Davies pitched three scoreless innings, but left as the Giants scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning. Prospect Tyrone Taylor hit a home run. The Brewers will face the Cleveland Indians this afternoon.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers are set to announce four free agent signings today. The group includes two linebackers known for their pass rushing – former Baltimore Raven Za’Darius Smith, and former Washington Redskin Preston Smith. The Pack also agreed to terms with former Bears safety Adrian Amos, and former Denver Broncs offensive lineman Billy Turner. The Packers also announced that they will release linebacker Nick Perry after seven seasons.

The Detroit Lions have signed a one-year deal with running back Zach Zenner.
