MLB
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and begin a series at Minnesota tonight. Matt Boyd will start against Hector Santiago. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Cleveland also had yesterday off, so the Tigers still trail the Indians by seven games in the American League Central Division. Any combination of seven Cleveland wins or Detroit losses clinches the division title for the Indians. Baltimore lost, and Toronto won, so Detroit now trails both of those teams by two-and-a-half games in the race for an American League wild card playoff berth.

The Milwaukee Brewers also had yesterday off. They’ll host the Pirates tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Steven Brault.

NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Chicago Bears 29-14. Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler left the game with a thumb injury. It will be evaluated today. If you played The Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you need to have selected at least 11 games correctly to be eligible to be our weekly winner.

Abdullah

Detroit Lions’ running back Ameer Abdullah apparently does not have a broken foot. He limped out of Sunday’s loss, but x-rays yesterday were negative. The injury has tentatively been diagnosed as a strain, and it’s not known how much time he’ll miss. Similarly, the injury that forced Ziggy Ansah from that game has been diagnosed as a high ankle sprain. Again, there’s no word as to how long he’ll be out.

Youth Hockey
The Keweenaw Bay Hockey Association will hold registration tonight between 6:00 and 8:00 in the Baraga School Library. Kids who sign up will get a free water bottle and shirt, while supplies last. For details, click here.

Our high school football coverage continues Friday night, when Calumet plays at Hancock in a battle for first place in the WestPac… and Saturday afternoon, when Houghton plays at West Iron County. Hear both games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
