High School
The Baraga girls basketball team will play for a state championship this morning. The Vikings will take on Glen Lake in the Division Four title game at 10:00 at the Breslin Center at Michigan State University in East Lansing.
The Vikings advanced by defeating Fowler 46-44 in the semifinals Thursday. Corina Jahfetson sank two free throws with 10 seconds remaining to provide the winning margin. Glen Lake eliminated Adrian Lenawee Christian in their semifinal game, 49-31.

Youth Hockey
The Copper Country Junior Hockey Association 10U AA Portage Lake Flyers began pool play in the state tournament Port Huron yesterday with a 5-1 victory over the Traverse City North Stars. The Flyers face the Trenton Blades this morning at 8:30, and the KV Renegades this afternoon at 4:15.

College Hockey
The Central Collegiate Hockey Association championship game will be played tonight, with Northern Michigan facing Minnesota State in Mankato.
The field for the NCAA tournament will be announced tomorrow.
Adult Hockey
The Copper Country Old-Timers hockey tournament continues through the weekend, with numerous age divisions for men, and a women’s division, as well. Games are being be staged at Dee Stadium, the Houghton County Arena, and the Colosseum.

NHL
The Red Wings host the Avalanche this afternoon. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The banged-up Wings have made a couple emergency call-ups from Grand Rapids for today’s game. Veteran forward Austin Czarnik will join the team, as will defenseman Simon Edvinsson. Edvinsson was the team’s top pick in the 2021 draft, and will make his NHL debut.
College Basketball
Michigan State opened the NCAA men’s basketball tournament with a 72-62 victory over USC yesterday. The Spartans will face Marquette tomorrow evening.
Big 10 champion Purdue was knocked out of the tournament yesterday. The top-seeded Boilermakers lost to 16th-seed Fairleigh Dickinson 63-58 in the opening round of the East Regional. It’s only the second time in history that a 16-seed has defeated a top seed.
The University of Michigan faces Vanderbilt in the second round of the National Invitational Tournament today at noon.
NBA
The Pistons host the Heat tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 5:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
MLB
The Tigers held off the Yankees 8-7 in Grapefruit League play yesterday. Detroit was up 7-0 at the end of the third inning, thanks to homers by Colt Keith, Riley Greene, Akil Baddoo and Andrew Knapp. Knapp’s second homer, in the fifth inning, provided the eventual winning margin, as New York closed the gap late in the game. Starter Matt Manning pitched into the fourth, giving up four hits, but no runs.
The Tigers face the Cardinals today. Matthew Boyd will start for Detroit.
The Brewers came from behind to edge the Rangers 4-3 in Cactus League play. Joey Wiemer and Skye Bolt homered for the Crew. Starter Jason Junk gave up a run on three hits over three innings.
The Brewers face the Padres this afternoon. Bryse Wilson will start for Milwaukee.
