The Detroit Tigers couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost to the Chicago White Sox 10-9 in 12 innings last night. Ian Kinsler started the scoring with a home run on the game’s second pitch. Detroit scored seven runs in the first three innings. The Sox came back with six runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. The Tigers led by two going into the bottom of the ninth, but Francisco Rodriguez gave up two RBI singles to to send the game to extra innings. Anibal Sanchez relieved him. He pitched two scoreless innings, but gave up the winning run in the 12th.
The Tigers continue that series in Chicago tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will pitch against Miguel Gonzalez. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Designated hitter Victor Martinez missed last night’s game because of a sore right knee. It’s been bothering him for a couple of weeks. An MRI revealed no structural damage, and the injury is being described as a bruise. Manager Brad Ausmus says Martinez will be limited to pinch-hitting duty for a while.
The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the San Francisco Giants 11-5 last night. The Giants broke open a close game with four runs off Blaine Boyer and Jhan Marinez in the seventh inning.
The Brewers continue that set at San Francisco tonight. Matt Garza will come off the disabled list to make his first start of the season for Milwaukee. Madison Bumgarner will pitch for the Giants.
Meanwhile, there are reports that the Brewers and Giants are exploring a potential trade that could send Ryan Braun to San Francisco. The Mariners are also said to be interested in Braun. The Brewers say they’re in no hurry to trade their best player.
Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball
In Copper Country Women’s Slow Pitch Softball last night, Northern Michigan Land Brokers lost to Auto Pro Glass and Tire 13-1, and then fell to Superior National Bank 11-5. In the first game, Sarah Audette was the winning pitcher and Britney Pennala took the loss. Selena Stromer had three hits for Auto Pro Glass and Tire and Megan Yeo had a home run. In the second game, Superior National Bank Rosalie Anderson got the win and Hannah Hill took the loss. Anderson had two doubles and a single for Superior National Bank and Sally Heinonen had four singles. Brenna Tolkkinen and Britney Pennala each had doubles for Northern Michigan Land Brokers.

NBA
The Cleveland Cavaliers stayed alive in the NBA championship series with a 112-97 victory over the Golden State Warriors last night. Golden State leads the series three games to two. Game six will be played Thursday night.
NFL
For the first time ever, the Detroit Lions will have cheerleaders this season. The formation of the new squad was announced yesterday. Auditions will begin a week from Saturday. The squad will be introduced in early August, and should be ready for Detroit’s home opener against the Tennessee Titans September 18th.
