In girls basketball tonight…
• Houghton entertains Iron Mountain.

In a girls-boys doubleheader…
• Chassell journeys to Watersmeet.

In high school swimming Saturday…
• Houghton swept Rudyard, with the boys winning 96-39, and the girls 92-46. Multiple winners included Leah Kormazec in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and Conner Holombo in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke. See full results here.

College Volleyball

The Michigan Tech volleyball team salvaged a split at Northwood University with a 3-1 victory yesterday.

College Skiing

Michigan Tech’s Annabel Needham won the 5k classic, as the Huskies hosted the NCAA Central Regional Championships over the weekend. Both Tech teams finished second in the region. See details here.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings lost 7-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks last night. The Hawks put the game away with five goals in the third period. Thomas Greiss took the loss in net.

The Wings visit the Columbus Blue Jackets tomorrow. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons fell to the New York Knicks 109-90 last night. Jerami Grant led Detroit with 21 points.

The Pistons visit the Toronto Raptors tomorrow.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers opened their Grapefruit League schedule with a 10-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday. Willi Castro hit a long home run.

The Tigers face the New York Yankees this afternoon. Coverage begins at 1:00 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers began their Cactus League schedule with a 7-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The Brewers play the Arizona Diamondbacks this afternoon.

CopperDog 150

J.R. Anderson wins the CopperDog 150.

J.R. Anderson won his second CopperDog 150 title yesterday. The 2012 champion swept all three stages of the event. Laura Bontrager finished second… followed by Joanna Oberg… and local musher Sarah Tarlton fourth place. Our other local mushers included Tom Bauer at 14th, Jaimee High in 18th, and Griffin Farrell from the Mushing Club at Michigan Tech in 23rd position.

Ben Thompson won the CopperDog 25 on Saturday. Local finishers included Susan Serafini in 11th place, and from the Musing Club at Michigan Tech, Sophie Mehl placed a very respectable seventh, and Suze Harris was 17th.
