Detroit responded with four runs in the bottom of the first, but that was all they got. New York added two in the second off Price, two in the fourth off Angel Nesbitt, and three in the seventh of Al Alburquerque.

Detroit closer Joe Nathan took the mound in a rehab game with the Toledo Mudhens yesterday, but left the game after feeling a “pop” in his right elbow. Nathan was examined after the game. No results have been released, and his trip back to the Tigers is on hold.

Nelson

Jimmy Nelson of the Brewers and Johnny Cueto of the Reds each surrendered a run in the first inning… then settled into a pitchers’ duel that Cincinnati eventually won, 2-1.  Each pitcher worked through the eighth. Nelson gave up just three hits, and Cueto five. The Reds scored the winning run in the top of the ninth, when Billy Hamilton raced home on a Francisco Rodriguez wild pitch.

The Brewers conclude that home set against the Reds this afternoon. Kyle Lohse will pitch against Homer Bailey.
