Wins for Tigers, Brewers – Monday Sports Wrap

NHL

The NHL Eastern Conference semifinals will end this evening, as the Hurricanes host the Rangers. That set is tied 3-3. The winner will face the Lightning in the Eastern Conference final beginning Wednesday.

The Western Conference final between the Oilers and Avalanche begins tomorrow.

NBA

The Celtics edged the Heat 100-96 last night to win the NBA Eastern Conference title. Boston took the series 4-3, and will face the Warriors in the championship series beginning Thursday.

MLB

Home runs from Harold Castro and Jeimer Candelario lifted the Tigers to a 2-1 victory the Guardians yesterday. Starter Elvin Rodriguez tossed four scoreless innings, but left the game with leg cramps. Outfielder Robbie Grossman departed in the third inning after suffering muscle spasms in his neck. Both are considered day-to-day.

Those teams will play again this afternoon in Detroit. Beau Brieske will pitch against Dylan Bundy. Coverage will begin at 12:50 on 99.3 The Lift. 

The Brewers blanked the Cardinals 8-0. Corbin Burnes gave up two hits over seven innings, and struck out 11. Jace Peterson, Rowdy Tellez and Lorenzo Cain homered.

The Brewers visit the Cubs for a day-night doubleheader today. In the first game, Ethan Small will make his major league debut against Nelson Swarmer, who will also be making his first big league appearance. In the nightcap, Aaron Ashby will start against Drew Smyly.
