Sayen Runs for 1500 D-II Title Today – Saturday Sports Wrap

College Track

Michigan Tech runner Clayton Sayen will compete in the 1500-meter final at the NCAA Division II Championships this afternoon. The Houghton High School grad was the seventh-fastest qualifier of the 12 who made the final.

College Soccer

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team has added a new recruit. Kevin Amaro is from Victorville, California.

NHL

In the NHL conference semifinals continued last evening…
• Darren Helm’s late goal gave the Avalanche a 3-2 victory over the Blues. Colorado wins the series 4-2, and will take on the Oilers in the Western Conference finals.

Tonight…
• In the Eastern Conference, the Rangers host the Hurricanes. Carolina leads that series 3-2.

NBA

In the NBA Eastern Conference finals last night, the Heat got past the Celtics 111-103. That series is tied 3-3, and will be decided tomorrow.

MLB

The Tigers and Guardians were rained out last night. The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on July 4th.

Those teams will try again this afternoon. Alex Faedo will pitch against Shane Bieber. Coverage will begin at 3:50 on 99.3 The Lift. 

The Brewers were shut out until Keston Hiura’s two-run homer in the ninth inning, and lost 4-2 to the Cardinals. Starter Brandon Woodruff left after four innings with an ankle problem. He’ll be evaluated today.

The Brewers continue that series in Saint Louis this afternoon. Adrian Houser will start against Matthew Liberatore.
