Manning Hurt as Tigers Fall – Sunday Sports Wrap

The Finlandia baseball team dropped two more games at Wisconsin-Oshkosh Saturday, 21-4 and 11-1. Brandon Gaskin and Jacob Mead each had three hits.

NBA

The NBA tournament began Saturday.

In the Eastern Conference…
• The Philadelphia 76ers outscored the Toronto Raptors 131-111.

In the Western Conference…
• The Dallas Mavericks lost to the Utah Jazz 99-93.
• The Memphis Grizzlies fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves 130-117.
• The Denver Nuggets lost to the Golden State Warriors 123-107.

The other opening-round matches begin today.

In the Eastern Conference…
• The Atlanta Hawks visit the Miami Heat.
• The Boston Celtics host the Brooklyn Nets.
• The Milwaukee Bucks entertain the Chicago Bulls.

In the Western Conference…
• The New Orleans Pelicans visit the Phoenix Suns.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings lost 4-0 to the New York Rangers Saturday afternoon.

The Wings entertain the Florida Panthers this afternoon.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers fell 3-1 to the Kansas City Royals Saturday. Detroit starter Matt Manning was pulled after two innings with some discomfort in his shoulder. Team officials aren’t sure how serious it is. The Tigers’ only run came in the second inning, when Dustin Garneau doubled home Daz Cameron.

The Tigers visit the Royals again this afternoon. Tyler Alexander will start against Carlos Hernandez. Coverage begins at 1:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Shortstop Javier Báez was added to the 10-day injured list Saturday. He suffered a thumb injury while batting recently. With Wily Peralta added to the 40-man roster so he can join the Tigers, pitcher Bryan Garcia was designated for assignment.

The Milwaukee Brewers dropped a 2-1 decision to the Saint Louis Cardinals. Adrian Houser took the tough loss, pitching into the sixth, and giving up a run on four hits. The Crew’s only run came on a Victor Caratini homer in the eighth.

The Brewers host the Cardinals again today. Aaron Ashby will start against Dakota Hudson.
