MLB
The Detroit Tigers came from behind to edge the Chicago White Sox 5-4 in their season-opener yesterday afternoon. Miguel Cabrera’s two-run single in the bottom of the eighth tied the game 3-3. Andrew Vaughan homered for the Sox in the top of the ninth, but Eric Haase’s solo shot in the bottom of the inning tied the score again. After Austin Meadows tripled with two outs, Javier Baez hit a long fly ball to right field. The initial ruling was that AJ Pollock made an acrobatic catch to end the inning. A replay revealed, however, that the ball had hit the wall before Pollock gloved it. Meadows was waived home with the winning run on what was scored as a walk-off single for Baez.
The Tigers host the White Sox again this afternoon. Casey Mize will start against Dylan Cease. Coverage begins at 12:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs were rained out yesterday. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader May 30th.
Those teams will play again this afternoon in Chicago. Brandon Woodruff will start against Justin Steele.
