College Softball

The Finlandia University softball team dropped two games at Albion College yesterday, 9-1 and 12-4. Sarah Moir had three hits.

College Soccer

The Finlandia soccer team has introduced a new recruit. Rhys Wide is a defender from Caledonia, Ontario.

College Basketball

Former Jeffers basketball standout Christian Hocking has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II All Region 13 team. Hocking is a freshman at Gogebic Community College. He started all 30 of the Samsons’ contests this season, and led the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game.

College Hockey

Two more former Michigan Tech hockey players have inked professional contracts. Defenseman Michael Karow has signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Texas Stars, the primary affiliate of the Dallas Stars. Forward Trenton Bliss has signed an American Hockey League contract with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the primary affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings.

NHL

Andrew Copp’s goal in overtime gave the New York Rangers a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Red Wings last night. In a see-saw battle, Adam Erne had given Detroit the lead early in the third period. Chris Kreider tied it late in the third. Alec Nedeljkovic made 29 saves.

The Wings host the Ottawa Senators tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons welcome the Philadelphia 76ers tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers bombed the Philadelphia Phillies 7-1 yesterday. Tarik Skubal gave up three hits over four shutout innings. Jeimer Candelario had a pair of doubles.

The Tigers face the Toronto Blue Jays this afternoon. Matt Manning is scheduled to start.

The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the San Diego Padres 4-2 yesterday. Freddy Peralta gave up three runs on six hits over four innings.

The Brewers play the Los Angeles Angels this afternoon. Eric Lauer will start.
