Gibson Cup

Matt Yeo’s goal in overtime gave the Calumet Wolverines a 5-4 victory over the Portage Lake Pioneers in the opening game of the Gibson Cup series last night. Yeo’s twelfth tally of the season came just 42 seconds into the extra stanza, and foiled a spirited Pioneers comeback. Calumet took control early, building a 4-1 lead in the first period. Portage Lake scored twice in the second period, and tied the game in the third, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Calumet could retain the Gibson Cup with a victory in game two tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 at Dee Stadium. If needed, game three will be played tomorrow at 5:00 at the Colosseum. All of the games will be broadcast on KBear 102.3.
