The Detroit Tigers have signed former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Chase Anderson to a minor league contract. Anderson began last season with the Philadelphia Phillies, but struggled and was released in August. He was picked up by the Texas Rangers, and finished the season at their Round Rock Triple-A farm team. Pitchers Miguel Diaz, Drew Hutchison and Ramon Rosso also inked minor league deals. Hutchison split time between the Tigers and Toledo Mud Hens last season. Diaz saw action with the San Diego Padres, and Rosso made a few appearances with the Philadelphia Phillies. Detroit also signed 10-year veteran catcher Ryan Lavarnway to a minor league deal.
The Milwaukee Brewers have reportedly signed outfielder Andrew McCutchen. McCutchen was the National League’s Most Valuable Player in 2013 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, but hit just .222 for the Phillies last year. At age 35, he’ll be a candidate to become the team’s designated hitter.
