Former Houghton AD Horsch Honored by MHSAA – Monday Sports Wrap

In the boys basketball tournament tonight…
• Lake Linden-Hubbell faces Ewen-Trout Creek in a regional semifinal at 5:30 at Negaunee. North Central will play Munising in the second semifinal.

After the Michigan High School Athletic Association first announced that tomorrow’s quarterfinal girls basketball game between Baraga and Pickford would be played at Negaunee, the Baraga Athletic Department now reports that the game has been moved to Munising, with tipoff at 6:00.

Longtime Houghton High School athletic director Bruce Horsch is receiving a significant honor from the Michigan High School Athletic Association. Horsch has been named the 2022 recipient of the Charles E. Forsythe Award. In its 45th year, the Forsythe Award is given to an AD who has made outstanding contributions to the interscholastic athletics community. Horsch was a standout hockey goalie for Michigan Tech, and was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1976. After two years playing in the minor leagues, he served as an assistant coach at Ferris State and Michigan Tech, before becoming Houghton’s athletic director in 1996. He retired in 2019, after overseeing a major renovation of the school’s athletic facilities.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons dropped their third straight game yesterday, 106-102 to the Los Angeles Clippers. Ex-Pistons Marcus Morris, Luke Kennard and Reggie Jackson combined to score 62 points against their former team.

The Pistons visit the Miami Heat tomorrow.

MLB

With Major League Baseball spring training finally underway, the Milwaukee Brewers have re-signed reliever Brad Boxberger to a one-year contract.
