The Calumet and Baraga girls basketball teams have advanced to their respective regional championship games.
• In Division Four at Kingsford, The Vikings outscored Ontonagon 50-29 last night. Baraga will face Carney-Nadeau in the title game tomorrow at 7:00 Eastern Time at Kingsford. The Wolves eliminated Superior Central 55-33. Both Baraga and Carney-Nadeau have lost just once this year.
• In Division Three, Calumet shut down Bark River-Harris 69-34. Four Copper Kings scored in double figures, led by Jana Loukus with 16 points, and Caitlyn Strom with 13. The Copper Kings will play Glen Lake in the title game tomorrow at 7:00 at Saint Ignace. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. The Lakers dispatched Saint Ignace 53-34 last evening, and are unbeaten this season.
In boys district semifinals tonight…
• In Division Four, District 98, Baraga will host L’Anse at 6:00. Dollar Bay-Tamarack City will play at Lake Linden-Hubbell at 6:00.
• In Division Four, District 97 at Wakefield-Marenisco, Watersmeet will face Ewen-Trout Creek at 7:00 Eastern Time, and Ironwood will take on Wakefield-Marenisco at 8:30.
• In Division Three, Jeffers will host Ishpeming at 6:00. Calumet will play at Westwood at 6:00. Our coverage will begin at 5:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
The Calumet High School hockey team will face Midland Dow Friday at 1:30 in the state semifinals at Plymouth. NHL
The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Arizona Coyotes 9-2 last night. Alex Nedeljkovic gave up four goals on 12 shots. Thomas Greiss replaced him in the second period, but allowed two goals on three shots, and Nedeljkovic returned to finish the game.
The Wings host the Minnesota Wild tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Defenseman Danny DeKeyser remains in the Red Wings’ organization, after no other team claimed him. DeKeyser was placed on waivers Monday, on his 32nd birthday, so the team could bring Jakub Vrana off the injured list. DeKeyser could now be assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons entertain the Chicago Bulls tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
NFL
It looks as if Aaron Rodgers will stay with the Green Bay Packers. Yesterday, he announced on his Twitter account that he would be returning. He clarified, however, that the deal has not been finalized. There are reports that it will cover four years, at $200 million.
The Detroit Lions have inked wide receiver Josh Reynolds to a two-year contract extension.
Former Calumet High School and Michigan Tech defensive lineman Todd Storm has been promoted to assistant tight ends coach by the NFL’s Washington Commanders. Storm had been the Commanders’ offensive quality control coach for the past two seasons, after spending the previous two campaigns with the Carolina Panthers.
MLB
Negotiations on a new labor contract between Major League Baseball team owners and players continued into the early morning hours. Players have been locked out by the owners since the old contract expired December 1st. After canceling games in the first week of the regular season, Commissioner Rob Manfred had set a deadline of yesterday to reach a deal in which a modified schedule could still include all 162 games.
