The state Alpine ski championships will be held today at Schuss Mountain. The Houghton girls will compete as a team, and Reed and Eli Heathman from the Gremlins team qualified to compete individually.
College Softball
The Finlandia University softball team began its southern season with a pair of losses yesterday in Clermont, Florida. The Lions fell to Chatham University 10-4, and Moravian University 8-0. Finlandia will face Eastern University and Elizabethtown College today.
College Baseball
The Finlandia baseball team also lost the first two games on its southern schedule, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Chatham yesterday, 14-5 and 19-3. The Lions will play two against Northern Vermont-Lyndon today.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings host the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
Kelly Olynyk’s baseline jumper at the buzzer gave the Detroit Pistons a 127-126 victory in overtime against the Charlotte Hornets last evening. Saddiq Bey scored 28 points, and Jerami Grant added 26.
The Pistons visit the Washington Wizards tomorrow.
MLB
Major League Baseball players and team owners will meet again today to try to work out a new labor deal. The two sides are reported to be far apart on several major issues. Owners have locked out the players, and say they’ll begin canceling regular season games if an agreement is not in place by the end of the day.
